Egypt - Satellite map of the Silica Glass area
In the west side of the Great Sand Sea lies the enigmatic silica glass - ultra pure glass, 98% silica - discovered by P. Clayton in 1932 and believed by some scientists to be the result of a meteoritic impact. Another theory has it that these pieces are remains of a dried up lake. The silica field is located in the Great Sand Sea between two dune ridges 200 m high. © Lucio Andreetto - See the Egypt map with a complete picture set.
