St. Mary of Zion is the oldest church of Ethiopia, the real center of Axum. Built in 1665 by Fasilide. It looks like a castle with dark battlements faēade, bare walls, wooden multicolored grate to the windows. It contains beautiful frescoes that show the life of Mary, the Crucifixion, the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, the legend of Yared learning music by birds, and other important frescoes. - See the Ethiopia map with a complete picture set.
