Ethiopia - Debra Damo
Debra Damo is a fortified monastery dating from the sixth century, situated on an isolated mountain (amba in Amharic). Can be reached by a path and then must be climbed with ropes. Access is granted only to men. Nell'amba there is a church built before the ninth century by the Gabra Masqal. Nearby there is another building with a rich collection of ancient manuscripts. - See the Ethiopia map with a complete picture set.
