Il TelefériQo sale dalla periferia ovest della città fin su al Vulcano Pichincha. It is one of the highest aerial lifts in the world, rising from 2950 metres (8850 ft) to 4100 metres (13,400 ft). The ascent takes 8 to 10 minutes, travelling some 2500 linear metres. Due to the increased altitude and the wind on the mountain it is considerably cooler than the city and is also susceptible to fog, especially in the mornings.
